Course Overview

The course prepares students for progression to a postgraduate / Master’s / PhD Degree, RQF level 7.

Course Duration

24 weeks or 36 weeks. Please note, some classes me be delivered online.

Entry Requirements

• Qualification: Degree or RQF level 6
equivalent

• English Entry Qualification: Dependent on course duration (see below)

• Minimum Age: 21 years

Certificate

At the end of the course you will receive an ETC Pre-Master Diploma (24 week course), dependent on the nature and achievement of your course of study.

You will also receive an end of course report which will show Pass, Merit or Distinction criteria according to your performance in projects and assignments. Students studying for 24 weeks will receive a Diploma Award.

General Level /
Experience of Staff

Staff teaching EAP have at least a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, such as a DipTESOL or DELTA or a relative Master’s Degree.

Staff teaching English modules hold a CELTA or CertTESOL qualification.

Course Aim

The ETC Pre-Master’s course gives students the language level and academic knowledge needed to study at postgraduate level in a UK-based university.

The main focus of the course is a 2,000 word research methodology report, followed by a 7,000 word major project in a specialism of the student’s own choosing.

The course will cover the research proposal, thesis statements, research methodologies, recording & reporting results, report structure, literature reviews, statistical analysis, primary/secondary data collection/analysis, sampling frames, etc.

English, EAP and IELTS

English, EAP and IELTS are included in this course (dependent on the student’s English level).

Specialist Subjects

Students can also follow academic modules in their specialism according to the course they intend to follow at university.

Students will be taught by a specialist tutor who will provide the necessary subject content and theory to enable the student to fulfil their project objectives. Students may also pay for extra tutorial support with an academic tutor in their specialist field, where available.

The academic module will be decided from a range of topics in many different areas according to the intended university qualification (Business / Technology / Media & Communications).
